In 1991 we patented and started production on our Model 1 Pneumatic Pittsburgh Hammer, (now obsolete). We followed a design philosophy of using a existing .401 shank pneumatic hammer and adding a convex face chisel, (mushroom tool), and a tubular guide extending past the convex face of the mushroom tool to keep the hammer on the pittsburgh corner. We also used an industry standard retracting ball tool retainer, AH-17, similar to an air tool connector, to provide positive tool retainage. The result was a Pittsburgh hammer that due to a 10 fold increase in production, would pay for itself after 4 hours of use. However, it was no better than any other pneumatic Pittsburgh hammer on the market. Our primary advantage was price. In discussions with customers we identified the following general complaints, and the reasons for them
In the spring of 1998, we introduced the solution to the above problems, the Model 2 (18ga) and the Model 3 (16ga). We replaced the troublesome retracting ball tool retainer, AH-17, with the standard pneumatic hammer spring retainer, AH2-17, which now functions as an energy absorbing retainer. The redesigned pittsburgh guide, AH2-22, now clamps directly to the hammer cylinder/barrel. It encloses the retainer spring to ensure positive tool retention. The result is the shortest Pittsburgh hammer on the market. We manufacture the only custom parts, the mushroom tool, AH2-21, and Pittsburgh guide, AH2-22. These parts will install on any standard .401 shank pneumatic hammer.

We also offer a kit of Mushroom tool, AH2-21 & Pittsburgh guide, AH2-22 that will convert your existing .401 shank pneumatic hammer to a Pittsburgh hammer.
This tool quickly becomes indispensable in a duct shop. It is 10 time faster than hand closing a pittsburgh lock. The hammer will pay for itself with only 4 hours of use. You will also get a smoother and neater joint.
After warranty repairs are quick, easy and cheap. Most failures are in the pneumatic hammer, the result of poor air supplies, (dirt and lack of oil), and abuse. We warrant the hammer for 6 months. The pneumatic hammer, is a common, high quality import. You will find it sold locally under many different brand names. Often times your local pneumatic repair shop will be able to repair it for you. Otherwise, return it to us for quick factory service. If you need to get back into production quickly, purchase a .401 shank pneumatic hammer with a regulator in the handle locally. The tubular Pittsburgh guide and mushroom tool last forever.
